About Gwennie's Getaways

In 2016, after an extensive and thoughtful process of training and research we launched Gwennie’s Getaways.

Gwennie’s Getaways is committed to providing short term breaks to those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia and their family or carers.

Going on holiday can be extremely beneficial and enjoyable for people affected by dementia and their carers.

We have the use of five  beautiful static caravans, four of which are based at Primrose Valley, a seaside resort on the East Coast in Filey and one at Newton Hall Holiday Park, near Blackpool.

Each caravan is double glazed and has a full central heating system keeping it warm and cosy in the cooler months. They each have disabled access, two bathrooms and are fully equipped with the usual home comforts allowing for a comfortable and restful stay.

Gwennie’s Getaways believes that everyone should have a chance to spend quality timefree from daytoday concerns and to build/recall precious personal memories

There is a significant reduction in the level of stress for the patient and carer/s, health benefits for the individual suffering the illness (both mental health and physical health), a positive impact on mental and emotional health for all family members

A simple recharging of the batteriesfor the family. Something which most normal familieslook for on a holiday, but most families don’t have the challenges which our families have to cope with, so it is even more crucial for them to recharge their energy

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. However, a £100.00 deposit is taken from ALL families payable by cheque to Ruddi’s Retreat, all cheques will be destroyed once our cleaners have been in the van and done a cleanliness, damage, and content check.  The holiday is NOT confirmed until you have emailed an acceptance to ruddisretreat@gmail.com and sent a deposit of £100.00 through to Ruddi’s Retreat, 29 The Lodge, Linthwaite Huddersfield HD7 5TG

Gwennie’s Getaways reserve the right to cancel any dates given if the holiday awarded to you is not confirmed within 21 days. The caravan must be left in the same condition you find it, failure to comply with this will result in the £100.00 deposit being retained by the charity.

Gwennie’s Getaways rely heavily upon donations as we are not a large government backed charity.

Everything you see in the caravans has either been paid for by the charity or donated by someone that has worked hard to get it for us.

We now do a full inventory after every single family has stayed at the caravans due to many items going missing or being and will unfortunately have to charge for any replacements.

We realise that accidents happen and breakages may occur so ask that should you or a member of your family break something please text 07587080904 or call 01484 766050 to enable us to replace it.

Should you require a late check in please contact the caravan park
directly.

Should you wish to arrive or depart on a different day within your allocated holiday dates you must notify the Gwennie’s Getaways Head Office on 01484 766050 or by email to ruddisretreat@gmail.com.

All of our caravans are strictly no smoking.

Failure to comply with this will result in not only the deposit being retained but a deep cleaning charge
will also be levied

There are absolutely NO pets allowed in any of our caravans. This is an infection control action and must be adhered to. Should animals be found in any of our vans the family will be asked to leave immediately, the deposit retained and
cleaning charges will be forwarded.

We have tried really hard to make sure the vans are
pretty, both inside and out and would love you to help
us please.

On the decking you will notice some planters filled
with plants, if possible should the weather be dry.
could we politely ask that you water them for us so
that they hopefully last the entire season.

At the end of your holiday please strip all of the beds and place the linen and used towels in the shower tray.
